Week 11- Bibliography Sources

Hawaii State Energy Office (HSEO). “Energy in Hawaii. State of Hawaii, https://energy.hawaii.gov

The Hawaii State Energy Office is a government agency tasked with implementing and monitoring energy policy. This makes it an authoritative, credible source. Its website and annual “Hawaii Energy Facts & Figures” reports in detail, the state’s dependence on imported oil and the policies driving its transition to renewable energy. The site includes data on electricity generation, electric vehicle adoption, fuel imports, and updates on Hawaii's 100% Renewable Portfolio Standard goal by 2045. It also explains the economic risks of fossil fuel imports, which are affected by global oil prices and shipping costs. This source supports my paper by showing how energy policy and infrastructure affect fossil fuel use. I can use it to explain where fossil fuels enter Hawaii's economy through power generation and transportation, and how the state is attempting to reduce that reliance through innovation and investment in renewable energy (renewables)

Levy, Marc. “Trump’s New Energy Order Puts State Climate Laws in DOJ Crosshairs” Honolulu Civil beat, 11 Apr. 2025, https://www.civilbeat.org/2025/04/trumps-new-energy-order-puts-state-climate-laws-in-doj-crosshairs/

This article reports a new federal energy order that could weaken state level climate laws, including some in Hawaii. The article highlights the tension between federal efforts to boost fossil fuel production and attempts to limit climate change. Levy explains that the Department of Justice may challenge state policies created to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, especially rules that target major oil companies. This is valuable information for my argument because it shows how political decisions can directly shape emissions, environmental protections, and the legal power states have to fight climate change. It helps Hawai’i’s local environmental concerns for broader national policies.
